BLANCO ADA / CSA compliant sinks for ultimate universal design

Greater accessibility by design.

TORONTO, Jan. 18th, 2018 – With approximately 3.8 million Canadians living with disabilities, BLANCO Canada is proud to launch a single bowl sink series catered specifically for kitchens that follow the principals of universal design. Designing for accessibility and the concept of aging in place incorporates long-term universal design elements that provide flexibility for families, couples, and individuals with a diverse range of ages and abilities - allowing them to truly engage with their built environment.

Kitchen designers recognize the sink space as an important part of the kitchen’s “working triangle”, which is formed by the sink, stove and refrigerator. An effective, accessible kitchen maximizes independence and manoeuvrability within this space, while also keeping it conveniently compact. BLANCO is proud to introduce two new ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) / CSA (Canadian Standards Association) B651 compliant sink models that feature a reduced bowl depth for wheelchair accessibility. The BLANCO PRECISTM SINGLE 25 ADA / CSA is made in Canada from our revolutionary granite composite material - SILGRANIT® and can be installed as either a drop-in or undermount. This sink model will be available in three popular SILGRANIT® colours – Anthracite, Cinder and Metallic Gray. The BLANCO QUATRUS® U1 MEDIUM ADA / CSA is an undermount, stainless steel sink featuring a contemporary design with tight radius corners. These two new ADA / CSA sink models are well-designed sink solutions for people desiring greater accessibility and function without compromising design.

With the reveal of these products scheduled for IDS 2018, Blanco has also partnered with the Kitchen and Bath Design Post Graduate Program at Georgian College to kick off a student kitchen design competition. The competition challenged students to use the principals of universal design to create a functional and beautiful space that meets ADA / CSA requirements. The results were outstanding and the winning designs will be showcased in Blanco’s booth at IDS 2018.

Scheduled availability for the BLANCO QUATRUSTM U1 MEDIUM ADA / CSA is February 2018. Availability for the BLANCO PRECISTM SINGLE 25 ADA / CSA is scheduled for April 2018.
