Vicki Payne, a 14-year veteran of on-air makeovers and host of the popular PBS show For Your Home, recently updated a kitchen in Charlotte, NC. The 1990’s styled kitchen was in need of a redo and had to fit the needs of both a bachelor and an 85 year old live-in Dad. We spoke to Vicki about the project, that was just featured in Charlotte Living Magazine. Here’s some inside scoop about this beautiful kitchen that will air on two episodes in about a month.
The kitchen features a very unusual sink configuration. Tell us about what inspired you to design two sinks in the “clean up” area?
The homeowner travels a lot and his dad feels he doesn’t use enough dishes to always run the dishwasher. Also, they felt the standard double sink was not big enough to fit pots and pans. Our solution was to create two sinks in the “clean up” area which fit ergonomically into the corner. The first, a BLANCO Precision™ Element, which was perfect for scraping and rinsing and the second, a BLANCO Precision™ Super Single, which was large enough to fit all their over-sized pots.
The room seems so much larger, how did you do it?
We also upgraded to tall casement windows that could easily be cranked open and offered a beautiful view of the yard. The original squat double hung windows were so far removed, it was difficult to open them and to enjoy the view. And all the natural light makes the room seem so much larger and more inviting. We purposely left cabinets off the wall so the view could be enjoyed from the seating area as well.
