A beach-infused theme sets the stage for the “Jewels on the Bay” showhouse in Sarasota, Florida

June 28, 2018 By BLANCO

Florida designer Carmen Christensen was selected to participate in the 23rd annual “Jewels on the Bay” Designer Showhouse Sarasota benefiting the Boys and Girls Club of Sarasota County. The look for the Stapleton home makes you feel like you are relaxing on the white sands and under the blue skies of a Sarasota beach. We asked Carmen to tell us more about her inspiration and process for the design. For a virtual tour click here: https://jotbtour.com/tours/

What is your favorite part of this new design?

My favorite part of this new design is how it now blends with and has become a part of the living space, part of the home. Not only were the cabinets dated and dwarfed by the tall ceilings, the original kitchen made you feel like you were in a corral and cut off from the rest of the home. In redesigning the space I was able to create not only a much more functional space but also gave it a timeless look and feel that it is now connected to the home.

Carmen-Time2Design-BLANCOShowhomeWhat was your biggest challenge?

I had to find a way to design the kitchen in order to camouflage the exposed area of the floor where the old cabinets were. So I found a great pebble mosaic that complemented the existing tile and used it to create a inset pattern on the floor – with a similar pattern in the Cambria countertop.

How would you describe your design style?

The great thing about being a designer is that I get to change up my style, so it is a bit hard for me to be specific other than to say my personal design style is tailored, functional and purposeful. When I am designing for others it is important that I design the space to fit how they live and to reflect their style.

How did BLANCO’s products help bring everything together?

Blanco truly was the link that tied it all together. The sleek modern CULINA™ Semi Professional faucet complemented the modern coastal flare and the BLANCO ONE™ Super Single Bowl sink solidified the kitchen space with its multi-functional accessories. A BLANCO ARTONA™ faucet and BLANCO QUATRUS® R15 sink were specified for the laundry area.

The goal for this design was to create a more functional inviting kitchen with a modern coastal flair. In using DeWils Cabinetry I was able to pair the warmth of solid walnut cabinetry contrasted to the white thermal healing Fenix shaker door style. This combination is a modern transitional look that lends itself well to our coastal area.
