Cheryl Kees Clendenon is the owner and lead designer of In Detail Interiors in Pensacola, Fl. Her colorful personality and exquisite designs have been heralded in numerous local and national publications; the most recent is her kitchen renovation feature in Kitchen Bath and Business. Clendenon used a BLANCO Attika sink and BLANCOCULINA Semi-Professional faucet in her design. We had an opportunity to chat with Clendenon about her kitchen renovation.
Q: Why did you choose BLANCO for your faucet and sink?
A: I saw the Attika sink in Cologne, Germany years ago and loved it. When the sink became available in the U.S., I knew it was the one I had to have. I love the professional style of the sink and faucet but also prefer the over-mount aspect because it’s sleek and thin. I like my dirt on the outside of the sink for easier cleaning.
Q: What benefits do you see from a BLANCO faucet and sink?
A: For clients, I usually recommend SILGRANIT, as it is so reasonably priced for the value and benefits. I love that it doesn’t show spots and the neutral colors are easy to coordinate. I personally love STEELART® sinks. They have such an architectural presence that elevates the design. In my kitchen we have the BLANCULINA faucet, which is a great blend of function and style. The spray works better than any faucet I have ever had and the magnetic holder always keeps the faucet head in place.
Q: What reasons would you give a kitchen owner to buy a BLANCO faucet or sink?
A: BLANCO is a quality company that offers quality products with great style at affordable pricing.
Q: What features are important when thinking about your kitchen sink/faucet?
A: I am a huge advocate to buy the best sink you can afford, and I say this to EVERY client. But for me, I like single bowls that are deep and professional-style faucets that can change from a stream to a spray easily.
Q: What details should every kitchen owner pay attention to?
A: Layout, function, and aesthetics. It is important to know how you move about a kitchen and why you are working in a particular area. On large kitchen remodels, we will ask to observe a meal being prepared, so this helps me design for that client in mind. I’m often quoted saying “buy the best sink you can afford” because it cannot be as easily replaced as a faucet.
Q: Did you ever get discouraged while recreating your kitchen? If so, what got you out of your funk?
A: No, I loved it, but it took me a while! It is so hard when you see cool things every single day!
Q: Is there anything else you feel that’s important to your design that you would like to talk about?
A: My house is on the beach and has an open floor plan, so it is important to consider the aesthetics of the appliances and fixtures. I wanted a sleek sink, faucet, and appliances so they didn’t seem out of place with the rest of my home.
