Undermount Sink Installation

Under-mount or bottom-mount sinks are installed below the countertop surface. The edge of the countertop material is exposed at the hole created for the sink (and so must be a carefully finished edge rather than a rough cut). The sink is then clamped to the bottom of the material from below.

Advantages of an undermount sink include superior ergonomics and a contemporary look. This requires a counter material that can have a polished edge around the sink opening (quartz, granite and marble are beautiful options).

Different types of undermount installations - BLANCO CANADA - How to install an undermount?

Three undermount options are possible depending on individual preference. These options apply to both stainless steel undermounts and SILGRANIT. Note that BLANCO templates for most undermount sinks provide a 1/8 inch reveal around the bowl.

  • Partial reveal: The amount of reveal is flexible - more or less depending on the look that is desired.
  • Zero reveal: Countertop flush with sink bowls - no reveal or very little of the sink rim is visible.
  • Negative reveal: Countertop slightly over hanging - no sink rim is visible as it is hidden under the counter edge.

Drop-in Sink Installation

Also known as top-mount or self-rimming sinks, BLANCO drop-in sinks sit in appropriately shaped holes roughly cut in the countertop using a jigsaw or other cutter appropriate to the material at hand.

Top-mount sinks are therefore suspended by their rim. The rim then inherently forms a fairly close seal with the top surface of the countertop, especially when the sink is clamped into the hole from below. Great for any countertop material, especially laminate which cannot have a clean, polished edge around the sink opening.

Farmhouse Kitchen SInk Installation - Blanco Canada

Farmhouse Sink Installation

A farmhouse sink, also known as an apron-front sink, or a farmer's sink is a deep sink that has a finished front. Set onto a countertop, the finished front of the sink remains exposed. This style of sink requires very little "reach-over" to access the sink.

Most farmhouse sinks have a customized undermount installation, however please refer to individual product instructions for more details.

Dual-mount Sink Installation

Dual-mount this will give you a lot of flexibility when the time comes to pick your countertop. If you go with a tile or laminate countertop, you can use it as the drop-in style because of its ultra-flat sink rim.

This flat rim can help seal the edges of the sink hole, and the low-profile flat rim also makes it easy to wipe from the counter directly into the sink. As an undermount, the top side of the ultra-flat rim attaches easily to the bottom of solid-surface countertops

General installation tips:
  • Check the instructions on the template that comes with your BLANCO sink.
  • Sink templates are supplied only as a guide. The physical use of the sink will ensure a more accurate cutout.
  • Ensure enough space is left behind the sink for any fixtures that may be required - including faucet and other accessories.
