Richard Hanley has been awarded a scholarship for the new ground-breaking foundation degree in kitchen design at Buckinghamshire New University by BLANCO UK.
Richard works at Ability Kitchens in Saltney, Chester, and has spent most of his working life in the kitchen industry. “I believe this degree is the first step in regulating a huge industry which, until now, had no formal qualification criteria. The kitchen industry has to move forward in such a way to make it more professional and this is the first step.
“After graduating, I hope my improved knowledge and skills will result in the consumer being well informed and making the best decisions when choosing a new kitchen”, Richard explains.
So far, Richard has found the main benefits of the degree being examining the different approaches towards kitchen design along with gaining a deeper understanding on materials in terms of design options and the manufacturing process.
This industry-led foundation degree is the first of its kind in the UK and aims to increase the skills and knowledge of those working in the sector. For further information, please visit www.bucks.ac.uk .
