Learn more about SILGRANIT
What is SILGRANIT made of?

SILGRANIT is a patented granite composite material made of up to 80% natural granite. This finely ground granite is blended with a high-quality source of acrylic. This superior grade acrylic is made in-house under careful supervision and is blended with specially selected pigments which colors the material all the way through. The durability of SILGRANIT is the direct result of precise, strict protocols used during every step of production.

Is SILGRANIT heat resistant?

Yes, SILGRANIT is heat-resistant up to 536°F, exceeding common boiling or baking temperatures.

How durable is SILGRANIT?

SILGRANIT is extremely strong, making it impact and scratch resistant. If you drop a knife or metal utensil into your sink and it leaves a mark, don't worry. The metal has actually worn off onto the sink's surface. All you need is an abrasive sponge, some mild detergent or baking soda, and a bit of scrubbing effort to remove the mark.

Is it safe to handle food on SILGRANIT?

SILGRANIT has a defensive shield to protect you and your food from dirt and bacteria. Its patented Hygienic+Plus surface protection formula reduces bacteria growth by up to 98%. This makes SILGRANIT completely safe for contact with food.

How do I clean my SILGRANIT sink?
Cleaning your SILGRANIT sink

SILGRANIT is extremely easy to clean and does not require the use of any harsh chemicals. Mild dish detergent or baking soda and water is all you need for regular maintenance. For more cleaning tips, or to learn how to deep clean your SILGRANIT sink, watch our Cleaning & Care video, or visit our SILGRANIT cleaning page.

Will the color of my SILGRANIT sink fade over time?

No. BLANCO SILGRANIT sinks are cast in a single pouring, so they're colored all the way through. Normal household use does not cause any discernible changes in color. The color will not fade in direct sunlight.

I have scuff marks on my SILGRANIT sink. How do I remove them?

Our SILGRANIT sinks are very durable and scuff marks caused by pots, pans and knives can be easily removed. Just moisten the rough side of a sponge with some warm water, add a little baking soda and the scuff mark will scrub right off!

How can I remove limescale from my SILGRANIT sink?

Limescale can be a persistent problem, depending on where you live. To remove limescale buildup, you'll need a professional descaling agent (such as CLR) or vinegar with hot water. Apply the descaling agent to the areas with limescale buildup and let it soak for at least 2 hours. Rinse the sink thoroughly with hot water, wipe it down with a damp sponge and dry it with a soft, clean cloth.

Are the holes for faucets pre-drilled or already knocked out of the sink?

There is always one pre-drilled faucet hole in every drop-in SILGRANIT sink. However, there can be up to four additional knock-out holes available for soap dispensers, beverage faucets and other accessories. Extra knock-out holes are milled from the underside. You simply have to knock through the pre-milled holes.

WATCH OUR VIDEO below and learn how to punch a faucet hole in a SILGRANIT sink in 5 easy steps!

How to punch a hole in a SILGRANIT sink
  • Secure the sink in a stable position
  • Place a punch in the middle of the marked knock-out sticker
  • Use a hammer to hit the punch holes
  • Do not use excessive force
  • File the hole to the right size
Why does my dark sink look dull? Like there's a white film on the surface?

The white film you may see on the surface of your dark sink is residue / soap scum from cleaners. Cream cleansers have a lot of filler, and if too much is used or not rinsed thoroughly, it will leave a film. You can use Mr. Clean Magic Eraser, then thoroughly rinse with dish soap and water. You can then apply mineral oil on the sink once dry to bring back its dark sheen.

Do you need to seal SILGRANIT sinks?

SILGRANIT sinks do not need to be sealed because they are non-porous. SILGRANIT is a composite material made of up to 80% natural granite (quartz sand) mixed with acrylic resin. The surface of SILGRANIT is repellant and will not absorb liquids. It is not the same as a solid piece of natural granite stone used for countertops - these are porous and need to be sealed.

Can SILGRANIT sinks rust?

No, SILGRANIT does not contain any material which could rust.

Why is my light colored SILGRANIT sink hard to keep clean?

White is a higher maintenance color, so marks and stains will be more visible than on a dark colored sink. However, you can easily remove marks with baking soda on a damp cloth. Regular rinsing and wiping down with mild dish soap and warm water will also help maintain your light coloured sink.

For deeper cleaning, you can also use dishwasher tablets. Fill your sink with about 1" of HOT water, dissolve a tablet in the water and let it sit overnight. In the morning, scrub it down with a Scotch-brite nylon pad and then thoroughly rinse with dish soap and water.

Will SILGRANIT fade if using bleach?

No, however BLANCO recommends that you do not leave bleach in your sink for extended periods of time. Please refer to our SILGRANIT cleaning page for detailed instructions on caring for your BLANCO sink.

Does SILGRANIT scratch?

SILGRANIT is extremely durable and will not scratch. If you scratch a fork or knife on the surface of a SILGRANIT sink, the sink will actually grind down the metal of the utensil. These metal marks left behind can be scrubbed off with a rough sponge, some baking soda and hot water.

Is SILGRANIT patented and certified?

Yes, BLANCO holds seven exclusive patents for SILGRANIT, which makes this material the only one of it's kind in the world.

How can paint be removed from my sink?

You should NEVER pour paint into your SILGRANIT sink. The chemicals in acrylic paint will react with SILGRANIT if allowed to sit over 24 hours and will produce permanent marks. However, we understand that sometimes accidents happen!

For latex-based paints, try removing any paint residue immediately using a paint remover manufactured by the same brand as the paint. Consult the paint remover recommendations before using on any sink. For all BLANCO sinks, we recommend nail polish remover, rubbing alcohol or an acetone-based paint remover to carefully remove paint residue.

What kind of accessories can I use with my SILGRANIT sink?

BLANCO offers a wide range of custom-fitted grids, cutting boards and racks to protect and enhance the function of your sink. DO NOT USE rubber coated mats, as discoloration of the sink may occur after prolonged use. Similarly, any wet sponges or cleaning materials left on the sink for long periods of time could discolour the sink's surface.

What is the warranty on BLANCO SILGRANIT sinks?

All BLANCO sinks and faucets are supported by a Limited Lifetime Warranty. For full warranty details, visit our warranty page.

Can stainless steel sinks rust?

Stainless steel sinks do NOT rust but may appear to. Traditional orange/red rust marks in a high quality stainless steel sink can almost always be traced to one of three sources:

  • Steel wool pads used for cleaning
  • Tin coated steel cans or cast iron pots left in the sink while wet
  • Iron deposits in the water

Rust stains are not a sign of sink deterioration, they are just simple deposits on the surface of the sink. Scrubbing the stains with a mild cleanser or metal cleaner like Flitz, almost always solves the problem immediately. Be sure to clean in the same direction as the grain lines of the finish.

What's the difference between 16, 18 and 20 gauge steel?

BLANCO recommends 18 gauge as the optimal gauge. 16 gauge is thicker and adds additional weight to the sink.

How can hard water spots be removed?

We recommend using BLANCOCLEAN, glass cleaner or 50% proof vinegar mixed with water (available in hardware stores). Avoid table vinegar as the concentration of vinegar is very low.

How do I make my sink shiny?

You can improve the sheen on your sink by using BLANCOCLEAN, or Flitz cleaning products.

Do stainless steel sinks come with pre-drilled faucet holes?

Yes, all of our stainless steel sinks come with at least one pre-drilled faucet hole, but some models have 3-5 pre-drilled faucet and accessory holes available.

What kind of accessories can I use with my stainless steel sink?

BLANCO offers a wide range of custom-fitted grids to protect the bottom of your stainless steel sink. DO NOT USE rubber coated mats, as discoloration of the sink may occur after prolonged use. Similarly, any wet sponges or cleaning materials left on the sink for long periods of time could stain the sink's surface.

What does Chrome-Nickel content mean?

Chrome-Nickel content refers to the percentage of chrome and nickel in the sink’s stainless steel. Chrome gives stainless steel its luster & durability, while nickel provides hardness & strength. 18/10 Stainless Steel means the sink contains 18% Chromium or Chrome and 10% Nickel. All BLANCO Stainless Steel collections have an 18/10 chrome-nickel content, offering superior durability and corrosive resistance.

Is sound deadening applied to BLANCO stainless steel sinks?

Yes, the same kind of sound deadening pads used by luxury automobile manufacturers are installed on many of our stainless steel sink models.

Why do I have to dry my stainless steel sink after rinsing?

Unless pure distilled water flows from your faucet, there will be dissolved minerals and salts in your tap water. When tap water evaporates, the minerals and salts are sometimes left behind. These are the same water spots you see on your car after a car wash. If you dry your sink after rinsing, these spots will not form. If you have hard water deposits, try to use a little white vinegar to remove them. After removal, rinse and dry the sink.

What chemicals are bad for use on stainless steel sinks?

Construction chemicals, solvents and many household cleaners contain chlorides and acids which can react and damage stainless steel. Chlorine bleach (chloride) or products which contain it (many ordinary household cleaners do) can stain/corrode a stainless steel sink. Muriatic acid which may be used by a ceramic tile person to clean grout, is not recommended. Plumbing PVC solvents can also cause problems. If a dangerous chemical gets on the sink, wash it immediately with water. Rinse well and dry the sink with a towel or paper towels. These facts are true for ANY kitchen stainless steel sink, in any gauge, offered by any company.

What are the stains or residue at the bottom of my sink?

Multicoloured stains or residue on the bottom of sinks are most commonly traced to minerals contained in your water or by salts from water softeners. In most cases, these stains can be removed by using Shiny Sinks or Bar Keepers Friend. Be sure to clean in the same direction as the grain lines of the finish. Rinse well and dry the sink.

What is the warranty on BLANCO stainless steel sinks?

All BLANCO sinks and faucets are supported by a Limited Lifetime Warranty. For full warranty details visit our warranty page.

Why are most BLANCO sink drains rear-positioned?

Rear sink drains maximize the functionality and usable space inside the sink bowl. They also create extra cabinet storage beneath the sink, by enabling drainpipes and garbage disposals to be installed at the rear of the kitchen cabinet.

What's the difference between an undermount and a drop-in sink?

Undermount sinks are installed under the countertop. This is the most popular method of install and is most widely used with stone countertops. You cannot install an undermount sink in a laminate countertop.

Drop-in, or topmount sinks are installed on top of the countertop. These sinks will have a lip, or ledge around the sink and can be used with stone or laminate countertops. If your sink is a drop-in / topmount sink, most of these models can also be installed undermounted.

Please refer to the template included in your sink packaging. This is the guideline that your countertop fabricator will use to create the cut-out for the sink.

Three things to consider before purchasing your sink:
  • Determine your countertop and cabinet size
  • Determine the function and design options you want
  • Decide on the sink material

How do I install a sink with a drainboard?

Drainboard sinks are installed the same way as other kitchen sink models. A drainboard sink requires a full cut-out to include the size of the drainboard. The drainboard section of the sink does not get installed on top of the counter. A sink with a drainboard is a very practical solution which extends your workspace. Drainboards can typically be installed on the left or the right based on your preference and can be installed over dishwashers or drawer units.

A detailed installation template is provided in the sinks packaging and will serve as a guide for your countertop fabricator to follow.
