This past October, BLANCO ran the second annual #BLANCODreamKitchen contest encouraging designers across the country to submit an original dream kitchen design featuring a BLANCO IKON® Apron Front Single Sink and the BLANCO ARTONA® faucet.
With dozens of entries received, BLANCO asked a panel of design professionals to choose the top designs. In third place was Erin Thomas of California. We interviewed Erin to learn exactly what was the inspiration for this dream kitchen.
Q: What was your inspiration behind this design?
A: My concept was to create a modern yet classic, highly-functional space inspired by the Obama’s kitchen in their soon-to-be new home.
Q: Did you have a certain design theme in mind that you wanted to convey in your design?
A: I wanted to keep an uninterrupted work surface from the edge of the sink to the family space. This not only allows for expansive additional seating or buffet space but it allows the sink to be front and center in the work station area.
Q: How did BLANCO’s products make your design come to life?
A: BLANCO’s products helped me blend the modernity found in the ARTONA® faucet with the classic farmhouse design of the IKON® Apron Front Sink.
Q: What was the most challenging part of your design process?
A: The most challenging part of creating the design was having a moment of inspiration only 4 hours before the contest ended. Needless to say, I needed to work quickly but I’ve often found that working under pressure creates a good finished product!
