What is SILGRANIT made of?

What are SILGRANIT sinks made of?

SILGRANIT is a patented granite composite material made of up to 80% natural granite. This finely ground granite is blended with a high-quality source of acrylic. This superior grade acrylic is made in-house under careful supervision and is blended with specially selected pigments which colours the material all the way through. The durability of SILGRANIT is the direct result of precise, strict protocols used during every step of production.

How durable are SILGRANIT sinks?

Can SILGRANIT sinks actually scratch?

SILGRANIT is extremely durable and can withstand heat from boiling water, hot pots off the stove and sheet pans straight from the oven. If you drop a knife or metal utensil into your sink and it leaves a mark, don’t worry. The metal has actually worn off onto the sink’s surface. All you need to remove the mark is some mild detergent or oil and a soft scrubbing sponge.

Can SILGRANIT sinks rust?

No, SILGRANIT does not contain any material which could rust.

Is it safe to handle food on SILGRANIT?

Is SILGRANIT safe for handling food?

SILGRANIT has a defensive shield to protect you and your food from dirt and bacteria. Its patented Hygienic+Plus surface protection formula reduces bacteria growth by up to 98%. This makes SILGRANIT completely safe for contact with food.

Is SILGRANIT patented and certified?

Similarly, any wet sponges or cleaning materials left on the sink for long periods of time could discolour the sink's surface.

What is the warranty on BLANCO SILGRANIT sinks?

All BLANCO sinks and faucets are supported by a Limited Lifetime Warranty. For full warranty details, visit our warranty page.

SILGRANIT sink installation & repair

Are the holes for faucets pre-drilled or already knocked out of the sink?

There is always one pre-drilled faucet hole in every drop-in SILGRANIT sink. However, there can be up to four additional knock-out holes available for soap dispensers, beverage faucets and other accessories. Extra knock-out holes are milled from the underside. You simply have to knock through the pre-milled holes.

Do you need to seal SILGRANIT sinks?

SILGRANIT sinks do not need to be sealed because they are non-porous. SILGRANIT is a composite material made of up to 80% natural granite (quartz sand) mixed with acrylic resin. The surface of SILGRANIT is repellant and will not absorb liquids. It is not the same as a solid piece of natural granite stone used for countertops - these are porous and need to be sealed.

I have scuff marks on my SILGRANIT sink. How do I remove them?

Our SILGRANIT sinks are very durable and scuff marks caused by pots, pans and knives can be easily removed. Just moisten the rough side of a sponge with some warm water, add a little baking soda and the scuff mark will scrub right off!

Will SILGRANIT fade if using bleach?

No, however BLANCO recommends that you do not leave bleach in your sink for extended periods of time. Please refer to our SILGRANIT cleaning page for detailed instructions on caring for your BLANCO sink.

How can paint be removed from my sink?

You should NEVER pour paint into your SILGRANIT sink. The chemicals in acrylic paint will react with SILGRANIT if allowed to sit over 24 hours and will produce permanent marks. However, we understand that sometimes accidents happen!

For acrylic-based household paints, try removing paint residue immediately using a paint remover manufactured by the same brand as the paint. Consult the paint remover recommendations before using on any sink. For all BLANCO sinks, we recommend rubbing alcohol to carefully remove paint. Acetone or acetone based paint removers should not be used.

SILGRANIT sink cleaning & maintenance

How do I clean my SILGRANIT sink?

Cleaning your SILGRANIT sink
play

SILGRANIT is extremely easy to clean and does not require the use of any harsh chemicals. Mild dish detergent or baking soda and water is all you need for regular maintenance. For more cleaning tips, or to learn how to deep clean your SILGRANIT sink, watch our Cleaning & Care video, or visit our SILGRANIT cleaning page.

Will the colour of my SILGRANIT sink fade over time?

No. BLANCO SILGRANIT sinks are cast in a single pouring, so they're coloured all the way through. Normal household use does not cause any discernible changes in colour. The colour will not fade in direct sunlight.

How can I remove limescale from my SILGRANIT sink?

Limescale can be a persistent problem, depending on where you live. To remove limescale buildup, you'll need a professional descaling agent (such as CLR) or vinegar with hot water. Apply the descaling agent to the areas with limescale buildup and let it soak for at least 2 hours. Rinse the sink thoroughly with hot water, wipe it down with a damp sponge and dry it with a soft, clean cloth.

Why does my dark sink look dull? Like there's a white film on the surface?

The white film you may see on the surface of your dark sink is residue / soap scum from cleaners. Cream cleansers have a lot of filler, and if too much is used or not rinsed thoroughly, it will leave a film. You can use Mr. Clean Magic Eraser, then thoroughly rinse with dish soap and water. You can then apply mineral oil on the sink once dry to bring back its dark sheen.

Why is my light coloured SILGRANIT sink hard to keep clean?

White is a higher maintenance colour, so marks and stains will be more visible than on a dark coloured sink. However, you can easily remove marks with baking soda on a damp cloth. Regular rinsing and wiping down with mild dish soap and warm water will also help maintain your light coloured sink.

For deeper cleaning, you can also use dishwasher tablets. Fill your sink with 1–3 cm of HOT water, dissolve a tablet in the water and let it sit overnight. In the morning, scrub it down with a scotch-brite nylon pad and then thoroughly rinse with dish soap and water.
